5 Movies With Amazing Wardrobes to Inspire You

You know there’s nothing more I love doing with this blog than provide you with style inspiration. And while I’m usually in front of the lens for it, today I thought I’d actually step behind it!

As I used the last couple of days to relax and watch some great films, I thought today I’d share 5 movies with amazing wardrobes to inspire you. Because as I said before, there is an undeniable bond between fashion and film.

** Oh, and before we dive into these iconic movie wardrobes, please know that ifย you do purchase an item off the below widgets, you will be supporting this blog, as I will be getting a small commission at no cost to you (so thanks!)

Moulin Rouge (2001)

Smoldering, glamorous, hallucinating. Those are the best words I could think of to describe one of the most iconic movie wardrobes.

And who does it belong to?

Why, of course: Mouline Rouge’s! Which makes complete sense, if you think about the extravagant legacy of this famous cabaret.

Nicole Kidman makes a spectacular role in this film, and her costumes are just as memorable. Combining fantasy with elegance and femininity, her attire is nothing short of astonishing. If you love rich dresses, statement jewelry, and a sultry, belle รฉpoque style, make sure to watch this movie.

Marie Antoinette (2006)

Overly indulgent and over the top is how this film feels from a fashion point of view.

And you know what?

I’m here for it! This is a movie to fill you with childlike wonder, and to inspire you to wear your flirtiest, girliest pieces.

Kirsten Dunst is all sugar pastels, bows, feathers and rococo in this rendition of the notorious Dauphine of France’s life. From the top of her adorned head to the bottom of her silk shoes clad feet, Marie Antoinette is a lesson in assumed capricious femininity.

A favorite film noir of mine (a category to which yes, I argue it belongs), Casablanca is a masterpiece of filmography. Next to the compelling characters and intriguing plot, it can also boast some of the most stylish film wardrobes- both in the women’s and the men’s department.

Let’s all take a collective moment here and remember Elsa and Rick… Just how swoon worthy was Ingrid Bergman?

Her character is impeccably well dressed- a true icon of understated elegance. Her coats and hats could make any modern woman swoon; the simplicity and straightforwardness of her outfits actually makes them more charming.

The September Issue (2009)

One of the best fashion documentaries I have ever seen, The September Issue isย  chock full of style inspiration.

What’s so amazing about it?

Through its lens, you get to catch a glimpse into the glitziest, craziest haute couture creations, and into the people making them come true. You see magnificent editorials and whimsical photoshoots, all designed for visual beauty.

And while most of us will never be able to just waltz into the atelier of an haute couturier and order anything our heart desires, it’s still pretty nice to get inspired by their creations. In the end, we can always translate a certain detail, vibe, look and feel into our own wardrobes with a bit of ingenuity and imagination.

Chocolat (2000)

This may not seem like an obvious top 5 contender for one of the best movie wardrobes. Juliette Binoche’s character and her wardrobe whisper instead of blaring. They insinuate instead of overtly parading- but through just that, they become unforgettable.

And guess what?

Before you know it, you’ve fallen in love with them both.

I would say the dresses in this film are pure, vintage French girl chic. Not in the cliche way, but in the best possible sense. They exude an air of elegance through the understated lengths and sweetheart necklines. They are classic but never boring.

In short:

The type of looks you could sport now and in 20 years, and still be just as relevant!

So with that my dears, I hope I’ve managed to put a smile on your faces. And I hope you now feel you have a couple extra tools to inspire your personal style. Have a lovely Sunday evening, and enjoy watching these films! I’m curious to hear what you think of them.

Until next week, have a fabulous time!
