5 Makeup Bag Must-Haves for Beginners
Makeup is one of the biggest industries out there today, and with all the products available, it can get a bit overwhelming. So what if you can’t decide what to keep during a massive clear out? Or if you don’t even know where to get started with building your makeup bag? Whatย are the makeup bag must-haves for beginners?
Foundation
Setting the canvas is the first step when doing your makeup. A good foundation will help camouflage blemishes, even out your skin tone and can even target some specific needs.
Depending on your skin, you can look forย hydrating, mattifying, SPF rich or luminizing foundations, with coverage ranging from low (natural) to high. And when applying, start light, go in layers and don’t forget your neck, decolletage and ears! You want a seamless, natural look, not a heavy, gloopy mask.
Mascara
I remember reading a poll some time ago, which showed that if they absolutely had to choose only one makeup product, the vast majority of women would go for mascara. And who can blame them? A quick swipe can brighten your eyes and make you look more awake and fresh!
Which is why I definitely recommend you take the time to find the perfect one for you.ย Oh, and if you’re wondering just how to do that,ย keep an eye out for my Youtube channel! I’ll be giving you some tips to help you sort through the sea of mascaras out there.
Eyeliner
When it comes to contouring your eyes, nothing beats eyeliner. And specifically liquid eyeliner. Now I know it’s a matter of preference, but the liquid version gives you intensity and pigmentation that crayon just doesn’t.
And while learning to do a liquid eyeliner flick is not exactly easy, you will find it’s a look that goes with everything. Plus, it will make you look like a pro, even if you’re just beginning with this whole makeup biz.

Lipstick
I’ve sung the praises of lipstick before, and for good reason- lipstick can be fun and bright, bold and moody or natural and soft, and it can helpย tie in your whole look together.

And of all the lip products out there I’m picking lipstick as your must have if you’re just beginning with makeup, because you can get a sneaky extra use of it: shades of rose, red, terracotta, or even wine or mauve- depending on how deep you skin colour is- can double up as blush. It’s a trick I always use for a current monochromatic look!
Highlighter
And last but not least, I strongly recommend you get your hands on a good highlighter. A light touch of it can brighten and add dimension to your whole face, without having to resort to heavy contouring.
My favorite ways to use highlighter are: right underneath your brow arch- on your brow bone, on the bridge of your nose, on your cheekbones AND on your Cupid’s bow. I don’t see a lot of women placing it there, and I think it’s a shame. It makes for a very sexy and subtle way to accentuate your lips.
And now of course, I want to hear from you all: which makeup products are indispensible for you? Which was the first one that you added to your makeup bag growing up?
